Suicide Statistics In Connecticut - 2001
290 individuals completed suicide in 2001 - that's approximately one person every 1.2 days.
Of those 290 individuals who completed suicide in 2001:
236 were men 54 were women 50 were older adults ages 65 and over 12 were older adults (60-64 years of age) 20 were youth between the ages of 15 and 24 2 were youth between the ages of 10 and 14 (both male)
Firearms were the most common method used by Connecticut Residents to complete suicide in 2001 (used in approximately 33% of documented suicides). For youth, hanging used in 65% of completed suicides.
It is estimated that each suicide intimately affects at least 6 other individuals; thus, in 2001, approximately 1,740 Connecticut residents were "intimately" affected by a loved one's suicide.
